Pitching

Pitching your work to an agent, editor or producer doesn't have to be a scary experience. If you are well prepared, know your story inside and out, and can sell your story's concept in a few sentences you will have the best shot at grabbing an agent's interest.

We highly recommend that you prepare well in advance. Read articles on how to craft a pitch, test your pitch on other writers, and get feedback from experts whenever possible. See our other pages on in this section for tips and workshop opportunities.

GROUP Discussion Q&A:

These are twenty-minute intimate group sessions where you get an opportunity to have face-time with an industry professional and pick their brain. Have a great idea for a book or screenplay, but you’re not sure if it has the legs to sell? Want to find out what the state of the market is? Want to know what genres are hot right now? Book a Group Q&A session with the professional of your choice, sit down for an informal chat and ask away!

Pitching Etiquette
One-on-One Pitches


Pitch only one project per consult, unless you are asked for more.
If they are interested, they will ask you to send your work.
If your project is not something your consultant handles, ask for a referral.
Please don’t press them beyond the length of your consultation.
Treat your pitch session like a job interview- dress well, smile, don’t eat, etc.
Thank your consultant. (They are not paid to consult with you.)

Group Sessions

Be sure to select the type of group in which you want to participate — short pitches or an intimate discussion with a consulting professional.
If your group allows pitches, stay within a one to two minute time-frame on your pitch. Practice and time yourself before you attend.
Be respectful of others in the group, whether you are pitching or having a discussion.
Leave at the end of your group.
Have fun! Display your passion and your professionalism!
